Prove research, critical thinking, writing, and learning design application through initial research on a topic of interest that could be utilized in a real-world setting.
This assignment shows my ability to conduct research on a topic through my finding, analysis, and application of learning design concepts detailed in peer-reviewed research articles. This project shows how I intend to use the knowledge gained during my time in the Instructional Design Technology program to better assist learners through efficient course design, effective feedback, and community building. My writing skills are also displayed in my concise wording and proper citation style.
Create a lesson that shows competency in the ADDIE model by researching an educational concept, implementing a lesson that details this concept, and creating an assessment that shows students’ learning attainment.
During my lesson, I chose to highlight Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and the benefits UDL provides to all learners. I related UDL to real-world examples to help the concept be more easily understood by the learner. My lesson included many examples of how UDL could be implemented into a lesson and my assessment was also varied in its approach of showing learning objective attainment, again highlighting the importance of UDL.
Analyze a case study that highlighted how a company determined the return on investment (ROI) for a human resource development (HRD) training program that was utilized company wide. As part of this analysis, show the importance of credibility, subject matter experts (SMEs) and buy-in of stakeholders as you determine the ROI.
Through my case study analysis, I was able to show my understanding of Kirkpatrick’s four levels of evaluation and how these data can show return on investment in human resource development (HRD). Additionally, I was able to articulate the importance of buy-in and results-based actions to drive decisions. Finally, I highlighted the importance of communication, especially with key stakeholders, in the design and analysis of the training program.
Working as a group, create a proposal for a digital game that incorporates learning theories (portrayed as “lenses” by Schell in his book The Art of Game Design: A book of lenses) that show how gamification in learning can lead to better learning outcomes and knowledge retainment.
As part of our project, our group decided that we would use the popularity of the craft beer industry to design an app that allows users to learn more about the beer making process. We would “gamify” the learning process by providing users with the ability to earn badges after proving their knowledge attainment. In this game proposal, I was responsible for establishing learning goals and learning outcomes.
In this group project, we analyzed how technology has impacted the learning environment. Specifically, our group looked at how the internet has affected how lessons are designed and how learners learn and are assessed.
To highlight how technology has affected course design and delivery, our group included research on how asynchronous learning environment lead to better communication, engagement, and efficiency among educators and learners. My role with this project was creating an online digital artifact which incorporated Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles as well as highlighting how technology can lead to better mastery.
Utilizing a technology of your choosing, create an online lesson that encompasses scenario-based eLearning concepts and methods to train a learner on a real-world topic.
In this project, I employed various techniques learned throughout my time in the Instructional Design Technology program, especially the ADDIE model and scenario-based learning. This project was completed using Articulate’s Rise 360 course creation software to create an online learning module consisting of two lessons. These lessons were intended to train a new staff member within the BGSU Office of Admissions. The lessons provided trigger events where the learner had to select the appropriate response. Whether right or wrong, the learner was provided immediate feedback to guide their self-paced learning experience.
